Viburnum opulus is a beautiful native shrub that is particularly useful for a country style mixed hedge. It is related to elderflower although the berries are not edible. The foliage is medium green, turning yellow and red in the autumn.
It will grow happily in moist, but not waterlogged, soil. It prefers alkaline soil but will tolerate acidic conditions.
For best results viburnum hedging should be planted 33cm apart at 3 plants per metre.
